New York Fashion Week Spring 2020 Fave Looks

Right after Labor Day, the next biggest holiday for all of us fashion lovers is New York Fashion Week. Typically a week long event, this was the first season newly appointed CFDA chairman Tom Ford decided to cut it back to five days. Nonetheless the city seemed just as busy. Photographers were everywhere snapping pictures of the best and sometimes outrageous outfits. You can hardly walk down the street without passing a celebrity, model or your fave Instagram influencer. I know because after doing some quick shopping with a friend in Soho, we passed Kehlani, Slick Woods, and Aleali May one after the other. I also had the chance to work and attend a few fashion shows and parties, where people watching was at an all time high. From the Harper’s Bazaar Icons party where everyone who is who was there to the numerous shows taking place at Spring Studios, it was a sight to see. The outfits on the streets to the clothing on the runways, it all really gets me excited about who and what you will find at fashion week. My favorite part is looking on the runways to see what’s coming next.

At the very top of the list we have Pyer Moss. I am a huge fan of the whole production of the Spring 2020 show. The “Sister” collection at King’s Theater is truly one to remember. It was a celebration of my beautiful black culture, from the music to the models and even the graphics on the clothing. I’m definitely looking forward to seeing this collection drop next Spring.

While white wasn’t seen so much on the Fall runways, it is back for Spring. Brandon Maxwell’s finale look featuring the white bralette with the high waist full skirt is one of my absolute favorites. Another top contender is Dion Lee’s take on the bralette by adding functional pockets and LaQuan Smith’s skirt set with the top adorned with crystals at the collars and cuffs.

Recently, I’ve been looking forward to seeing what’s new from Area by Piotrek Panszczyk and Beckett Foggby. The jewelry and accessories were a big part of the show. The crystal chained belt over the pistachio colored suit is definitely one piece I will be on the lookout for in Spring.

Other favorite looks of mine include the multi colored, ruffled dress from, NYFW’s traditional closer, Marc Jacobs. It’s such a fun and whimsical dress! Tom Ford’s pink sculptured plastic top, reminiscent of a breast plate is definitely a conversation piece. It was an ode to Yves Saint Laurent’s Claude Lelanne breastplate dress at his autumn/winter 1969 show.

Khaite is a brand that has recently gained my attention, this lace tunic style dress over the plaid and tulle skirt paired with the pearl headpiece caught my eye. Aliétte by a friend of mine Jason Rembert, is a fairly new brand and I am reveling in what I’ve been seeing. The oversized shoulder detailing is refreshing for Spring and I wonder what is to come next season. Rounding out my favorites is Vera Wang. The lingerie like details mixed with the menswear inspired fabrics and tailored silhouettes was a winner in my eyes. I love the look of mixing lingerie with everyday clothing and hoping this is a trend that is coming to stay.
