Fall 2019 Trends

The Fall 2019 season is here and I want to highlight a few trends to look out for as you prepare your wardrobe switch. Each season we look for trends to see what’s new, what is different and how to wear it. With some inspiration you never know, what’s in your closet may already be on trend. I’m all for keeping up with the latest but don’t think you need to break the bank to join in on the fun. The trends outlined are the result of a series of common threads seen on the Fall 2019 runway shows.

POWER DRESSING

Streetwear has had a big run but tailored clothing is making a comeback. From blazers and trousers to the full three piece suit, all were seen on the runways of Balenciaga, Saint Laurent and more. Today suiting is now seen as a fashion staple and a symbol of power. You can easily pair a tie neck blouse or button front shirt with the suit for a full power look. Opt for a tailored blazer with a feminine blouse and jeans for a casual way to style the trend. If you want to wear this trend but don’t have much money, no worries. Take a blazer you already own and wear your most tailored pair of pants with a button front blouse and heels. If you didn’t have a reason to dress up before, you do now, you can wear this look to the office, for a big meeting or even to a wedding this season.

FEATHERY

Birds of a feather flock together, nothing says this more than this trend. Feathers were shown from accents and trims to full on feathered garments. Anything that creates movement or gives your look a more dramatic feel will be sure to bring some excitement . Whether you go for the feather coat by Prabal Gurung or the printed blouse with feather trims on the sleeve by Peter Pilotto, wear this trend and you will make a statement.

PRETTY IN PUNK

Imagine Lana Del Rey and The Runaways did a song together, you would get ‘Pretty in Punk’. The pretty, romance, softness and femininity blended with the grungy and darkness is the essence of this trend. It is the mix of tulle, ruffles, lace, fishnet and cutouts all blended together and then topped off with dark accessories and sneakers. You can wear these looks to a night out with friends or an upcoming music festival or concert. You can try this out now using what’s in your closet, pair your most feminine “little black dress” with fishnet tights and sneakers.

FASHION ART

Art and fashion have been blended for the last century or so but each year they find an innovative way to come together. Here within in “Fashion Art” you can see the clothing taking on art in a literal way through graphic images, prints and embroidery from varying artists. Peter Piccioli for Valentino decided to commission poet and artist Robert Montgomery along with other writers including Mustafa The Poet, Greta Bellamacina and Yrsa Daley-Ward. Together they all created lines of poetry about love that can be seen on the clothes and graphics that evoke this theme of love. This trend truly captures expressionism and allows for the wearer to interpret this in their own way.

TUDOR ERA

They say history repeats itself and in fashion, it seems to happen more often. If you ever wanted to live in the Elizabethan era or Tudor period, have no fear your chance is here. It’s all about the collars; the more ruffles, ties, pleats or drama, the better. Try this look for your next big day out, whether it’s to an art gallery, movie premiere or just dinner with the girls. It will for sure be one to turn heads while warranting compliments.

HAUTE PINK

I’ve personally never been a huge fan of pink but this season I’m all into it. The brighter the pink the better as it’s all about the varying shades of bright pink. You can wear this color as a monochrome head to toe look as seen by Maison Rabih Kayouz or opt to make a statement with the coat by Prabal Gurung. Red is also a great accent color to pair with the bright pinks this season. Pink has been widely known to stand for girly and ultra feminine but it can also bring out joy and euphoric feelings. Anytime this season if you need a pick me up, go for bright pink and you may begin to feel more optimistic about your day.

SUNNY SIDE

Typically when you think of Fall you think of dark, muted and jewel tones, nothing usually as bright as ‘Sunny Side’. This season bright colors are here to stay. The yellow and mustard tones signal a sign of optimism. According to the color palette I would say designers were feeling pretty good about this Fall season. Clothing is known to change your mood and if you want to feel radiant, opt for this trend. If you’re bold, try wearing a monochrome look and ground the look with black shoes but neutral accessories. If you just want to test this yellow colored trend out, try going for a top or a jacket and pair with olives and nudes. Or you can go for a full yellow dress to make a bright statement.

TOP OFF

Accessories are known to make or break an outfit. Hats are a major statement. Whether stylish or casual, they play up your look and adds that extra spark. I’m not talking your traditional baseball cap, fedora or wide brimmed hats. I’m talking about hats that invite you to stand out from the crowd, makes most do a double take. For example, the hat by Loewe featuring wings is a guaranteed show stopper. It is playful by design but yet elevated enough to enhance any look.
